Great day

What a great day. How do I know it is a great day you ask? Because God is involved in it, and if I remember that it will be a great day.

Honestly, I know that many times I decide that a day is going to be good or bad at 7:00AM. The day as really not even begun yet and I have already doomed it or blessed it. It seems that we look over what we have to do that day, the things that are coming up the next day, the things that are still lingering from the day before, or even the week before, and then we decide if this will be a good day, or this will be a bad day. We let the possibilities of the day, and our concerns about past and future days, control our today.

If we really think about it though, we can not control the future. In fact the fact that we continue to try to control our own lives shows that we have fully giving our lives to Christ to begin with.

In the end, all we can do is prepare the best we can for what we expect to happen, handle life as it comes, and then trust God to care for us. In the end this is manageable. It also helps if we remember that we have made it through other days that were similar. In the end, this one will probably pass like the ones before.

I am not talking about some will yourself to greatness plan. I am simply saying that attitude is everything when it comes to our day. I have found when I say - "God, please help me today because I know it is going to be a rough one.", it usually is not as bad as I think it will be. That is probably because I began by admitting that I knew that I needed God to made it through. Rarely, however, are those great days either, they are just days that I survive.

However, when I say - "God, I have no idea what today will be like (which is really the truth), but no matter what happens help me remember that you are there, that you are involved, and that you care.", the day seems to go better. I admit my limitation, I admit my need for help and most of all I admit that I have no idea. In the same way I am admitting God's divinity, God's sovereignty, and God's loyalty. If I remember those things the things of this world do seem to grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace, to steal/paraphrase a line from a hymn.

Today is going to be great, not because you or I will make it great, but because God has a plan for it and His plan is the right one for me, even if it is not the one that I planned. Great days begin with a great dependence on God.

Have a great day and be the person God is calling you to be TODAY!.
