You just turned one and your mom gives you your first piece of birthday cake. Now does this go in your mouth? No. It goes in your ears, eyes and hair and yes it does eventually end up in your mouth. You just turned seven and all your family has come to your birthday party. All your cousins and siblings are there and yes there is one who will blow out your birthday candles before you can. Yes I was that sibling and there are pictures to prove it. You got some cool presents also and everyone wants to play with your new toys and you feel so special. You just turned sixteen. There is a brand new car with a big bow on top in your driveway just for you. You go running that morning to see it and open the door and well maybe they had to special order it. It's not sitting there as you expected. Well for many of us we didn't get that car. But we got to have a boy girl party. All our friends came over and hung out with the lights down low and music blaring. You really felt all grown up. You just turned twenty-one. You can legally buy alcohol now; you go out and try it, even if you didn't drink it (right). It seems as if the world is yours for the taking. You're an adult and can do all things. You have decided what you plan to do with your life and are heading straight for your goals. You continue having birthdays, each one unique. Some are good and some not so memorable. Some birthdays are remembered and some just go unnoticed. I have been lucky and have had good birthdays for the most part. Why all the talk about birthday parties, well mine is coming up. My birthday is near Christmas. Sometimes that was good and sometimes it was bad. My mom was good about waiting to put up the Christmas tree till after my birthday and my birthday was celebrated as its own special day. As I got older and moved out, most people just lumped my gift into one occasion (Christmas and birthday present). Even my lovely husband, on our first birthday, Christmas holiday told me to go pick out a present under the tree for my birthday. That was the first and last time he did that. Now I am not complaining about getting gifts, but you just don't feel special when you don't get your own day. So now you may be getting the picture. Jesus also was born on Christmas day (I know it was in the fall but we celebrate in December). Do we really celebrate a special day for Him? Does He get a birthday gift; does He get a gift at all? Do we even think of Him on that day? We are spending time with family and friends, opening gifts to each other, eating Christmas dinner, and some are rushing around trying to go see all their family. Do we even take time to celebrate the birth of our Savior? We would not be enjoying this day if not for Him. So this Christmas take time out from all the hustle and bustle and celebrate the birth of our King. Wish Him a happy birthday, blow out the candles on His cake and sing Him Happy Birthday. Tell Him how thankful you are for Him and for all He has done for you. Happy Birthday Jesus, we love you. And for all the December birthdays out there, have a great day. |
