Popcorn Kernels

This note is a redux of a post that we placed on the site a bit over a year ago (Popcorn post here). We are posting it with edits and changes today because we think the message is timely and impactful. We also picked this post in honor of the new movie - End of the Spear - that opens Friday nationwide. We are looking forward to seeing it and hope everyone will got out and give it a look this weekend as well. With that said, today's note is short, and it is based on the unique mind of my wife, so be warned.

My wife and I were talking about Judgement House (which is common for us) and how they actors in the Hell scene may used burnt popcorn as part of the smell in Hell. As we were talking my wife made a really interesting point - We are all really just popcorn kernels.

When she first said it I sort of took a double take toward her, and she went on to explain what she meant. What she meant was that we are all just kernels, and when we get heated up we either expand / explode to meet the challenge or we do nothing. God is really the heat when you think of it. He touches us all, just like heat touches all the kernels in the pot - the difference is the response. Some expand to their potential, which is God's desire, and others do nothing and just get burned up and smelly.

That may not be the most advanced explanation of accepting God, or rejecting God, but it does give a nice visual to what we hold within us. Within us all, via God, there is enough potential to expand to our maximum size and ability. By trusting God, we become all we can be and we will be a blessing to all that we come into contact with. Our expansion is not based on how close or far we are to the other kernels, it is based on the potential that already existed within us. Many times we will find ourselves being the loan popped kernel in the area, but that does not make our potential or our call any less, just a bit more obvious.

The unfortunate thing is that unlike popcorn where 90%+ of the kernels pop, 90%+ of the humans that meet God today do not explode in God. The majority of humans act like the 10% of kernels that do not pop. They do nothing and just get burned up and smell bad. Even sadder is that fact that some that are just burning up and smelling are in church every Sunday.

I know today's note was not deep, but hopefully it gave you one more visual of God and what He does in and for us. I know that popcorn looks different to me now since my wife and I had this conversation.

Today know that God is moving and calling you to a life that is ACTIVE and VIBRANT and lived at FULL POTENTIAL within Him. He is the root of all good things, and the giver of great gifts to all that follow Him. He is the re-builder of lives and the restorer of hope. His love and impact is fully capable of making us all live to our full potential. Allow Him to impact you in that way today.
