PART I We live that way as people. Strong and direct people lead, most people follow and any that oppose us learn quickly not too as we practice the policy personal destruction on any that stand against us. Now there is nothing wrong with being strong in your beliefs, or even in defending yourself when attacked. The way and manner in which you respond is something that is debatable, but honestly your actions find you out so if you are too vindictive your past typically comes back to haunt you. As Christians though we really should have different perspectives on how we live our personal lives. I propose the statement that should guide our life should be - “Let God Lead, Follow Him, and Pray that all that oppose God repent before they are destroyed and judged.” I know it is wordy and not as simple so I doubt there will be any bumper stickers available anytime soon, but that does not make it less true. Lets look at it in three parts. First, Let God Lead. If you are a Christian that should be happening anyway, if you are not you need to not risk another day without Christ. He is victorious, powerful and mighty and those are exactly the traits we look for in leaders. God is who He claims to be, and there is credible proof regardless of what the world tells you I promise. If you need proof and are willing to honestly look at it look in the Lifestyle links of this site and check out a few of the Apologetics sites. Read them and find out the truth of God and how much proof there really is for His existence. The Bible also tells us the true nature of God as a leader and the nature of the defeated Satan. Satan rules the earth in its sin state (until Christ returns) and Satan is the father of lies. What makes you think that the father of lies would tell you the truth about God who defeated him. No one rushes to follow the defeated, weak and conquered, or at least not anyone with any sense. Satan knows this, so he must lie to keep his followers. Decide today you want to trust, God - true and honest, or Satan - lies and cheats. There are no other options, either God or Satan. Choose and then follow your lord. Remember as well, that God is the creator of the universe, creator of all, giver of life, and the final judge of our eternity. The only real question for the believer is are you living with God as your commander and chief and acting as a good solider, or are you acting as the commander and chief of your life and relegating God to the position of advisor when you get attacked or when risk arrives. Obviously the Christian should live as the first (God in command, you following). No other relationship is acceptable between the Creator and the created. To steal a line from the world - “Know your role” Again the question of the moment, are you letting Him lead? Do you consult Him all the time? Do you pray to Him throughout the day? Do you study His word? Do you seek His direction on decisions (both big and small)? The answer for all of us is No we do not do these things all the time. If you think you are then you are wrong. How do I know this, one simple term - Sin, and one little point about you - You are human. Sin and humans when combined create rebellion. The Bible tells us that all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God and that we must work out our salvation with fear and trembling. The second part tells me that I have to continue working to improve my relationship with God, it is not a relationship that is perfect because I am involved and I know that I am not perfect. God wants to know me better, but I must let Him. The fact that we have all sinned must mean that we do not always allow God to lead and do not always place Him in the position of authority that He needs to be in. The good news is that we can get better at this and that God is patient and just and allows us to return to Him and restores our friendship anytime we request. That is the great hope in following God, He is just, He is victorious and He is your personal friend. Now the second, part - Follow Him. We should know Christ and where He leads we should go. One place that shows us the nature of a right relationship with God is John 10:25-29. In addition, the section above (Allowing Him To Lead) there is much proof on why we should follow Him. Simply put, He is a winner, He is a just leader, He is in charge, He will judge those that rebel, and He will love you regardless of your state. But there are other reason to follow Him as well. Those include, His protection, His guidance and His rewards. God promises us that all that are His will not be lost to the devil. That means He protects and provides all we need. No relationship, no family, no job, no degree, and no government can do that. Simple human nature to follow those that provide for us should lead us to follow God. Why follow after dreams, persons, or task that do not provide for us. Yet the nature of sin is to follow after the easy, accessible and quick. God calls us to throw off our sin nature and seek Him. This will allow us to follow Him more closely. By following God we also gain the advantage of getting God’s guidance. This is like being able to access a source of knowledge that is never wrong. God knows what you need, when you need it and where you need to go. The key is learn to follow Him closely enough were you can sense His will, His direction and His leading. This does not come by ignoring Him, it comes by seeking Him, following after Him closely and focusing on the things that He desires for you.
