Today's note is short, hopefully it will encourage you without taking you from your busy schedule for long.
The note today is about health, and how most of us take our health for granted. Now I know we are both / all healthier then we deserve to be and most of the time we all forget to thank God for the blessing that He gives us with good health and such. With that understood, I want to focus on a specific area of health - our vision. I may remember to thank God occasionally for my health, or healing me when I am sick, or for my wife’s health (I pray for her health almost everyday), and when someone ask me to pray for their health and/or healing I do, but I do not think I have thanked God specifically for my vision many times. It just is there, not noticed or appreciated most of time.
I love to read, I write, I make a living with a computer (writing both code and text), yet I forget to thank God for the miracle of sight. I am sure I could ask a eye doctor and they could list off 100 sight issues that I could have with my eyes without a pause. I am also sure that eye doctors / vision professionals appreciate their vision more then me, since they deal with vision and eye sight daily. However, since I do not deal with eyes everyday I do not remember to be thankful for my sight. I am consistently thankful for things that I notice I am using, but things I use without thinking I forget to thank God for. I guess that is true with most of us though. We are thankful for the things we notice, but we miss many blessings due to our lack of attention.
My point in this is that my human vision is something that I really should be thankful for and I forget to thank God for it because I get too caught up in other things. In the same vein, I forget to be thankful when it comes to Godly vision. I forget to thank God for giving me both a personal and a ministry vision. I pray for vision, all the time, and routinely I even get some vision from God. After that, typically I go to work on accomplishing the vision He gave me, but many times (not always but usually) I forget to thank God for answering my prayer and giving me a vision. It is like I use to be about teaching classes and developing lessons. Many times, I just assume that vision is an immediate off shoot / benefit of being a Christian and I forget just how special that a vision from God is. What a blessing that He does not just answer my prayers, but He answers them in a way that benefits and helps me. What an amazing God, and what a selfish person I am.
So today I challenge you too not just thank God for your physical health and sight, but also for your spiritual health and vision. Many times we can get so caught up in carrying out a vision or a duty that we miss or forget that we should be thankful that we even have a vision to begin with. What a great God that not just blesses me because He can, but does so because He wants too.
Stay strong, be courageous, and serve God in all things.
