Today is Friday, end of the work week, and all that jazz, but it is very likely that sometime this week we have been blessed and missed it. A week of time with God, a week of work for and with God, a week of blessings and a week of prayer, yet in all of this we probably have missed a few things.
It is that old God is in the details thing. Daily we each experience small blessings that go unnoticed because we are too busy to see them. Sometimes we miss them because they are small, and can be easily missed if we do not pay close attention. Most likely, however, we miss them because they are so common that we just do not notice them.
The word blessings alone tells us that they are not common, ordinary, or basic. Blessings are things that are special, unique and gifts from God. Anything God does with and for us is special. There is not such thing as a common word from God, or a basic movement of God. God and all He does is exceptional, special and unique. So, one of the first things we need to do it learn to see these regular occurrences in our life as special. Seeing them as normal takes their true nature, being a gift from God, from them. Changing how we view God’s working and moving in our lives is the first step to learning to appreciate Him and His ways more.
God can send us blessings in all kinds of forms. Maybe it getting some unexpected help to finishing a project. Maybe it is a few sprouts of grass, or a flower appearing, in a muddy backyard. Maybe it is a kind word from a person that we help. Maybe it is a frustrating co-worker that decides to leave us alone one day. Maybe it is a smile from a clerk, or a waiter/waitress. Maybe it is a glance from your children, or the look in your dogs eyes, when you come home. Maybe it is a loving look from your spouse or girlfriend / boyfriend. You know the one the look that silently says - I love you. Maybe it is your parents telling you that they love you, and that you are important too them. Maybe it is being told that we are appreciated. Maybe it is a call or email to or from a friend. Maybe it some laughter in a time of pain. Maybe it is a foreseen problem that never arises, or a troublesome issue that is avoided because of a wise decision. These are the things that pass us by because they become normal, standard, and bland, or they are so small that we have to slow down or stop to notice them.
Think about this, do you miss the words of a friend while they are around, rarely no. However, when we are apart or separated from them we yearn for their voice, their appreciation, their attention, and their companionship. We rarely miss them until they were gone. That is when we really begin to see the small blessings in our life, when they are removed, when they are gone, or when they are extinguished.
Yet, it is in the small blessings that God is sometimes the most obvious. It is His attention to detail that makes Him the lover of my soul. It is His details that allow me to prosper. It is His details that allow me times of rest in the storm of life. These details are the very things that God uses to show us His love for us. They are the very things that rally my soul when it is down. They are the things that stir my yearning to learn more about Him and His will.
He is not a God of details because He is only capable of small things, He is a God of details because He has the big things under control so well that He has time to handle the smallest issues in each of our lives. He is not just the God of history, but the God of today and the future.
His details are only mundane because we allow them to become that way in our lives. I am really trying to learn to appreciate the "mundane" things of God, because in reality they are the WONDERS of God wrapped in the normalcy of life and the calmness of the day. His eyes and hands are searching and working to assure me of a life full of details and wonders. He is amazing!!!
He is the architect of the world, and of me, how amazing that is that He puts the same quality to detail in my life that He put in to creating the universe and the earth. God is in the details, but only because He can and wants to be. AMEN!!!
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

you perceive my thoughts from afar.

you know it completely, O LORD.

you have laid your hand upon me.

too lofty for me to attain.

Where can I flee from your presence?

if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

if I settle on the far side of the sea,
Psalms 139:10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
Psalms 139:11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"
Psalms 139:12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
Psalms 139:13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.

your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
Psalms 139:15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
Psalms 139:16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
Psalms 139:17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Psalms 139:18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand.
When I awake,
I am still with you.
