Bricklin
Well the man that brought Subaru to America, the man that a car named after himself -Bricklin- in the mid 70’s - the Bricklin was twenty years ahead of it’s time in concepts and safety ideas -, is also the man that brought us the Yugo, well he is at it again. Bricklin now wants to bring a Chinese car to the US.
Let’s look at Mr. Bricklin’s history, he has had one winner, one good idea that failed, and one bad idea that lasted too long before it failed. Well from what it looks like this new idea will likely be Yugo Gen II. Chery, the Chinese car maker, made 100,000 cars last year, but claims that it can make as many as 600,000 a year if needed. The plan is to launch 5 models in 2007, yet at they moment they are all still in the design phase. So you will are 24 to 36 months from production but you have no actual models made for testing and development, yeah that is a winner. Mr. Bricklin says the car will have Toyota quality at 1/3 the price and will come with a 10 year warrenty. The question is - if (when ?) the endevor fails who will handle the warrenty calls and provide parts.
Team Swap loves the idea of innovation and quality at affordable prices, but Mr. Bricklin we encourage you to go back to what you do well - innovate - i.e. the Bricklin automobile - and not try to make the cheapest car in the market. Make the best and market will find you - regardless of the price. People claim to by on price, but they actually buy on quality and comfort - any basic sales and marketing class teaches that - and the consumer that buys solely on price is rarely the one that you want long term as a customer.
