Don’t forget Dafar
It is easy to forget about the rest of the world as we are dealing with the current natural disaster / tragedy along the western Gulf Coast. Now I am personally supporting and encouraging everyone to get involved and help out with Katrina relief, but we are not sole focused individuals, nor do we focus a single focused God.
Even though we are praying and working to help the Gulf Coast, we need to continue to pray for and work to help the rest of the world as well. One of the places that still needs the most help and prayer is the Dafar region of the western Sudan.
While we as a nation have been focusing on the war in Iraq, protestors, teen disappearances in the Caribbean, gas prices, and now Katrina relief the people of Dafar are still suffering. The government is still unfocused and dictatorial, and the lives and liberty of many Sudanese citizens is still in danger.
The biggest issue in the Sudan at the moment is how to deal with the recent death of a Vice President that had helped to broker a peace in the 21 year old civil war in January. His wife is now becoming a strong voice to continue the reforms and national direction that her husband had begun. The following stories tell various parts of the story -
Vice President killed and government still looking for killer, as well as leaving many citizens unsure of future - Reuter’s story here
Committee formed to find cause in leader’s death - Xinhua story here
Leader’s wife speaks out and steps up - Washington Post story here
So, as important as Katrina relief is, be sure to continue to pray and work to help those outside the US, especially in the Sudan and the Dafar region of that nation.
