Lance’s shirt

Note sure how I missed this one but I did … Even before the statements last week from Lance regarding LeBlanc and the tour Lance had already said a few things via his shirt while in Oregon back on October 6th.

Saunder’s stepping down

Filed under: Local, News, Sports permalinktrackback — Team Swap @ 3:06 pm

Randy Sanders is stepping down as UT’s offensive cordinator effective later today. He will remain on as QB coach for at least the rest of the year. Sanders and Fulmer will share play calling duties until the end of the season. His future with the team past the end of the season is not known at this time. More news to follow….

You knew something had to happen after Saturday. It was too ugly to continue, especially after being so close so many times the week before with Alabama and having a offense that could not produce points even when in the red zone. This season UT has score less point then they have in over 30 years. That is terrible for a team, but even worse when the team was suppose to be a top 5 powerhouse this season.

Stat that says it all - the Vols are ranked 108th nationally out of 117 Division I-A programs for scoring offense.

The meaning of marriage & gov’t redesign theory

Filed under: Current / General, Faith, Family, News, Politics, Technology permalinktrackback — Team Swap @ 1:44 pm

Mark Olsen (Pseudo Polymath) , linking to a article / post by Jason Kuznicki where Mr Kuznicki discusses the meaning of marriage eventually concluding that marriage is basically about mutual care. IN response Mark, and we would completely agree, argues that this internal only view is only half the picture, and then consideres some issues around same sex marriage that present more then internal issues for consideratinon.

Mr Kuznicki ends by offering some policy suggestions for why the government might be good to support “nurturing” relationships irrespective the gender of the participants. I would suggest that a traditional marriage and family structure might be worthy of different considerations than a nurturing covenantal bond between two adults. This is not just because children are defenseless, a lot of work, only occasionally cute, but required for the continuance of the race. But because traditional family life and intergenerational bonds are what tie us to who we once were, and this might be valuable.

As always with Mark, this is a well written, well reasoned, and intelligent post, we encouarge everyone to give this full post a read here.

Mark follows the post about marriage up with one that ponders how government could be redesigned and reapplied via use of modern technology (i.e. 330 million voters on topics, etc). He looks at how a model that directly measured the views of society might look and operate. Mark does not present this concept with his support, but provides it as means of making the reader think and ponder some new options in government by use of modern technology. This is a very interesting idea (should advancing technology change how we vote, poll, react, etc) Like Mark I would not support or condone the idea, but it is interesting to think about. Election Time - 2X

Filed under: Current / General, Local, Politics permalinktrackback — Team Swap @ 9:22 am

1) For you 99.8% of Knoxville voters that did not vote early, the CITY COUNCIL ELECTION IS TOMMORROW - NOVEMBER 2nd - VOTE!!! These people will impact your taxes, your schools (via funding), your annexation, etc more then any other group. Let your voice be heard.

2) Looking to next year and the ‘06 races, John Norris Brown has a post about a recent Zogby poll regarding the TN race for both governor and senator. (full post here) Like John Norris I rarely trust a Zogby poll at face value, but it does show that Bredesen is not a lock, as many have said, and that even though Harold Ford Jr. is keeping it close he is fighting uphill to get into the Senate. Interesting stuff. These numbers WILL change and it will be a interesting time in Tennessee for the next year.

Milton Stanley from Transforming Sermons hits two home runs this AM with his posts about about choosing to avoid the Calvinism vs Arminianism and knowing when to correctly say - I Don’t Know - because there is not a answer. Interesting stuff - full post here

For his second four bagger of the day, Milton knocks one out of the park by commenting on and linking to a great post about how we live in a world where we believe we deserve to know everything about everything weather it is about government, business, or the things of God. We do this even when we do not have the right / clearance to know. Full post here

Finding good in bad

Filed under: Faith, Family, Personal permalinktrackback — Team Swap @ 9:11 am

John T Brown of Scotwise in his Sunday Service blog series has a great short message about how Paul found reasons to be thankful even when writing to a problematic church. John then ties in the fact that God vias us all equally and does not judge us on how much we rebelled against Him, how many problems we cause Him, etc. No, He just sent His son to die for us while we were still sinners. What a amazing God. AMEN!!!

Society separation

Ben over at Open Switch has a very interesting post that begins by looking at how small kids (both boys and girls) seem to divide along gender lines naturally, and then traces that to how nerds find nerds, metal heads find metal heads, etc and then looks into the nature v nurture discussion regarding our development as both people and as a society. Ben even suggests a few things that he would like to see happen to help the process. Give the full post a read here.
