Sony Virus spreading
Well it did not take long, there is a virus spreading on the web based on the rootkit based Sony anti piracy software that is basically malware that was discovered recently (full story about Sony’s “malware” - including software to detect it here there is also more background here). The Washington Post has a story today - here - reporting how the virus is spreading as well as a few links to sites / companies that are working to stop the spread and keep the software from re-installing. Sony is really digging a hole on this one. They say that the software is only on 20 discs, but let us hope they step up QUICKLY and get this under control.
Sony is already getting sued over this software - stories here (BBC News), here (The Register) and here (Slashdot)
The Sony virus seems to have existed for a long time.
The violation of the privacy secretly done is pointed out on the bulletin board of Japan in May, 2002.
