Top East Tennesseans
John Norris Brown from The High Country Conservative had a post yesterday based on the News Sentinel story that reported the results of the Sentinel’s reader poll on who are the top East Tennessee residents of all time. Full Post Here
Like John Norris I can not really disagree with the list, though I am surprised as well that Neyland did not make it. I would also add John Sevier, Chet Atkins (even ahead of Dolly), Adolph S. Ochs, Patrica Neal, James White, and James Agee to the list though. Noticibly off my list are Philip John (PJ) Clapp (aka Johnny Knoxville), David Keith, and Kenny Chesney. There should be a long list of honorable mentions - like the Thompson family, Archie Campbell, Estes Kefavuer, and Jim Gray to name a few. Long and short I think the list has too many current or recent names when you think about the overall history of East Tennessee.
