Survivor - Melinda Hyder
Hello my name is Frank and I love reality TV.
HI FRANK
Seriously, I have remained silent until this point about the fact that my wife personally knows Melinda Hyder, she went to high school with her in Elizabethton, TN.
This personal link to the show has made us even more interested in a show that we ALWAYS watch anyway. We love Survivor, I admit it, and we are not on a 12 step program to get free. We also love Amazing Race (actually we probably like Amazing Race more then Survivor), my wife likes Biggest Loser and Celebrity Fit Club (though she misses both of them at times) and we usually catch a bit of some other reality show during the week, though we do not watch any others particular ones regularly or routinely.
Simply, Survivor is a great show and last night it was fun to watch the show while watching my wife follow her high school classmate. Personally, I thought voting off the Lumberjill was a BIG mistake. Why get rid of the one lady that can / does live outdoors and to top it off SHE BROUGHT HOME A FISH!!! I think Tina’s statement that the others were not working as hard as her was probably a window into the conflicts that were in the camp, but did not make it to the TV. Even with her view that the others are not working hard enough I think Tina was a keeper, at least until a merge. I think voting Cirie off would have been a better move, but time will tell.
I do like this 4 team system, and good or bad I think it will eliminate the “under the radar” player as you can not hide when there are only 4 people and there is A LOT to do. With so few people personality conflicts / flaws will be VERY obvious. I think if you could build a perfect 4 person team out of this group of sixteen I would put the Dan - the astronaut, Terry - the pilot, Tina - the lumberjill, and Bobby - the attorney together. They seem like four people that would work hard / together around camp, be a cohesive unit, and do well in the challenges.
Hopefully next week we will see more of the personalities of each player, as one hour was a bit rushed for a opener - which probably means that Survivor does not pull the viewers like it use too - and I will get to enjoy at least one more week of my wife watching her high school classmate. This is going to be a great season of Survivor.
Les from over at Hermann The Malevolent also has a Survivor Post up today. It seems that Les / HTM is a big Survivor fan as well and so far the two that he drew in the Survivor office pool are still in. Based on his post though he is not too confident long term of his chances of winning though. Read his full post here.

SWEET! You, like, know a famous person! I’m so freakin’ jealous. This is going to be a great season though, don’t you think? I love survivor.

Ben, I think it will be a great season. I already like it the exile island thing and I am waiting for the first mental breakdown next week. That dude that is craving a cig is going to DIE if he last 30+ days.
Carol, thanks for the link and tip. I noticed they had try outs near me, but I missed them. Maybe next season I will get more organized and give it a go. Who knows.
