Returning to Childhood

Filed under: Faith, Personal permalinktrackback — Team Swap @ 2:34 pm

Bob from Gratitude and Hoopla has a post up based on some part of Rich Mullins book - The World A I Remember It. Bob ,via Rich, is calling us all to remember what is like to be a CHILD of God and see the world as it is - a wonderfully dangerous place that is controlled by a loving God that protects His own - and to celebrate the relationship that we have in and with God. Great stuff to think about, and to lean upon. Bob’s full post here

Pork it up

Glenn from over at Instapundit has a post up today about some of the additional pork that has been found in the federal spending bill. My favorite, the waterless unrinal conservation project. Honestly people do we REALLY want that, even if we can do it. Glenn’s full post here

Voting Rights, GA, and the news

LaShawn Barber has a post that discusses both the history of voting rights, specifically those of African Americans, and how the current push for photo or state ID as a requirement to vote is not comparable to the high poll taxes, grandfather clauses, etc of the past. LaShawn also points out how many stories have hinted or inferred that the ID requirement is a attempt to revoke the voting privileges of some and return to the practices of the past. That inference is simply not true. Read LaShawn’s Full Post Here

Term Limit’s Round Up — *** UPDATED ***

Filed under: Local, News, Politics permalinktrackback — Team Swap @ 11:53 am

R Neil of Knox Views has a excellent round up post from various media sources that cover the current Knoxville Term Limit issue. R. Neil’s post here

—- Update —-

There is a breaking story that the Knoxville election will go on as planned, with the ballots as is, due to a state law that does not allow the changing of a ballot within 40 days of a election. It seems the plan is to let the race / election go as planned and then post election straigthen this all out.

That is nothing but a law suit waiting to happen. If a incumbant among the 12 that are in despute win, and it is likely most -if not all of them - will, they will sue saying that law affirmed by the TNSC can not kick them out. Their argument will be that they were elected legally and that the such a election was a clear decsion of the voter. Their next arguement will be that since this issue was unresolved at the time of election, they should be allowed to serve out this term.

The fact that local law legend (at least in his own mind) Herb M is suing to include the sheriff in this decsion the case / issue is about to get HOT!!!

In the end this decsion is going to do nothing but cost the city, the county, and the tax payers of both a fortunate. The end decsion will be that the SC decsion was too close to the county commission election. This election will stand, and the law will be effective next go around. The entire sheriff thing will take a time to play out and only time will tell on that.

Campaign Fianance Reform

Nathan Moore of Moore Thoughts has a post up that discusses the current round of proposed reform of campaign finances. This time it s the Republican party that is trying to change the rules. Like Nathan I am for anything that weakens McCain - Feingold, though I do think that the Republican party can, and sometimes does, use 527’s as effectively at Democrats. Nathan’s full post here

The long term cost of repression

Filed under: Current / General, History, Politics permalinktrackback — Team Swap @ 11:19 am

Sigmund, Carl and Alfred via comment, analysis, and liberal inclusion of quotes and links from a series of posts at Shrinkwrapped and a post from the Anchoress, has a very interesting post up on how Europe has suffered due to is repressed mind set. The argument being that Europe fears aggression so much due to it’s past that it has effectively chosen to not stand against evil since WWII. Interesting thought and idea. Worth a read, even if it is just to ponder the ideas expressed. SC & A post here

Using the right words is important

Filed under: Faith, Personal permalinktrackback — Team Swap @ 8:58 am

Milton Stanley, via a post by John Suk, has a great post that questions the truth / validity of the statement “Personal Relationship” when referencing our relationship with Jesus. This is not meant as a piece to challenge your faith, but to question the words that many of us use to define it. It is a great challenge to use the proper terms when we talk about the things of faith.

John, and Milton by proxy, ask if the words - “Personal Relationship” - actually hold the true meaning and nature of the relationship between Christ and His people. Very good stuff to think about. Give Milton’s post a read here and John’s Post a read here.
