The fight over and for education
[H/T to Sigmund, Carl and Alfred for this one - post here]
Robert P. George (a professor from Princeton) has a piece in City Journal that discusses some of the ill’s in American education (specificially the university level, which reflects on the schools below), and what could be done to fix them. Professor George cuts to the chase from the beginning with this line - Higher education could heal itself by teaching civics—not race, class, and gender., and then goes on the analyze the lack of knowledge that most American students have. George points out that even the majority of America’s top students do not understand the underlying concepts of limited government and freedoms that the founding fathers were trying to build into this nation via it’s founding documents. George contends, that by understanding these concepts other issues get handle in a more efficient and fair manner. Very interesting points and a excellent piece.
