Border Issues Addressed
Euphoric Reality has a Guard The Borders blogburst up this AM that analyzes in depth the pro Immigration / anti felony legislation protests that occurred over the weekend. After analyzing the protests, and mentioning a case in Indiana where peaceful border supporters were attacked, Heidi then goes on to look at the bigger picture that immigration and immigration issues bring up within a nation. Heidi concludes by looking at how sovereignty of nations has been impacted in the past via immigration and the growth of a separate nation (or nationalism) within a nation. This post is well worth a read, regardless of which side of this issue you are on. Post Here
For me MOST of the bottomline issues in this area following -
1) Border security is vital to national security. Until we take it seriously, no one will take our borders or our security seriously.
2) Immigrants flee nations because of lack of jobs there. It is not America’s responsibility to provide jobs that other nations can or will not.
3) President Bush says that there are jobs that Americans will not do - I disagree, the issue is what Americans will work for. Businesses that flourish at the expense of underpaid workers need to be dealt with via the law.
4) That leads to my point about enforcement - punish companies / employers that employee illegal aliens and you will stop much of the inward flow.
5) Illegal aliens should not get benefits that citizens do not. Example - out of state students pay out of state tuition in North Carolina, yet illegal workers and their kids get in state rates.
6) The idea of a guest worker program is a joke. These guests will not leave, nor will we deport them. Don’t believe me - wait until the first “guest” mother is sent home, yet her 16 year old child - a US citizen due to birth lets say - has the right to stay.
7) We are here because America’s politicians will not stand up to block of swing voters (immigrants) and enforce the law. Change that and you will change the problem.
9) It is the role of the church, not the state, to care for the malnourished, under served, etc. To require federal dollars to be used to house, educate, care for medically, and provide for illegal aliens is unjust.
10) English is the national language, all government business should be conducted in English only. If private businesses want to use other languages - fine, but government, and all of it’s functions, should be English only. Tat includes English as the langauge of schools as well. If I move to France I have to learn French, if I move to Japan, I have to learn Japanese, if I move to Saudi Arabia, I have to learn Arabic. To require US citizens and residents of the US to use English is not a undo burden.
