Marriage is for white poeple?

Joy Jones, a Washington Post reporter, has determined via observation and stats that marriage is more for white people in the US then for African Americans. At the least that is how it appears to some within the African American community. The reporter, a black woman (her term), first discovered this while view / trend while spending time in a elementary class a few years ago, but has since been it reinforced by the decisions in the lives of herself, her friends and their acquaintances. She also shares stats that bare out her point. Full story here
But human nature being what it is, if marriage is to flourish — in black or white America — it will have to offer an individual woman something more than a business alliance, a panacea for what ails the community, or an incubator for rearing children. As one woman said, “If it weren’t for the intangibles, the allure of the lovey-dovey stuff, I wouldn’t have gotten married. The benefits of marriage are his character and his caring. If not for that, why bother?”
For me this article is just one more example of the terrible news regarding the state of marriage in the US, regardless of race. As Ms Jones notes in her article the trend of marriage, regardless of race, is down in the US as more and more view marriage as unneeded for them to achieve their life goals or as a means of baring / raising children. Marriage was created by God for two people to share in each other forever. It is unfortunate that we have reached a point where marriage is deemed to be better suited for one race over another, and I desperately hope that such a fact is not true. It is not God’s desire, or mine, to see the marriage institution in the shape that it is in within the US. Personally, I hope that the marriage trend changes in the near future.
