Paris Roubaix
Sorry I am a day late getting this up, but I did not get a chance to watch Paris Roubaix until last night. The beautiful wife and I did not get home until very late from church Sunday night and I simply did not get a chance to watch the race until last night. Got to love the old VCR.
Anyway back to the race. That is the classic example of why Paris Roubaix is the queen of the classics. Boonen in a break WITHOUT help. Hincapie / Discovery has 3 out of 12 in the break and then Hincapie has his handlebars come off due to a broken extension. The weakest of the three Discovery’s riders get in a break with CSC’s Fabian Cancellara, who is obviously on a flyer, and then falls back with the now Discovery leader on the road Lief Hoste to try to keep it all togather. Next, Cancellara clears the train tracks, the next three (including Hoste) slip through the downed barriers, and the second break with Boonen gets stopped by the train.
Cancellara wins and Hoste finishes second. Then Hoste and his two mates are DQ’d for slipping by the down barriers and Boonen - fifth on the road - gets second place. What a crazy race and that is why I love it so.
Maybe Hincapie can have better luck next year and make that final step to the top of the Paris Roubaix podium.
This Sunday on OLN the Amstel Gold Race. Got to love that hill. Watch it if you can.
Next week - The Tour Of Georgia
