EuclidVision

[H/T to Tombo for this one]
This one cam in via the transom and we decided it was definitely worth sharing.

There was a story in the Boston Globe yesterday -
story here - that discusses a new video compression technique / format that may revolutionize the distribution of movie both across the web and on media. The new technology would take a traditional 700MB MPEG4 movie and compress it to about 50MB. That is amazing. Their system, which is currently being patented, is suppose to map images and then reuse the image again and again without the need to store it repeatedly. Very cool.

Of course as good as this may be for movie distribution online by studio’s it also opens up more and more options for pirating / movie sharing as roughly 15 full length movies would fit on one regular CD at this point if the compression worked as described.

Give the piece a read and see what you think.
