Duke - update
Well the Duke case got interesting again didn’t it. We woke up this AM to hear that 2 lacrosse players from Duke were arrested at 5AM this morning. One of the two has apparently already bonded out.
Charges from the grand jury do not mean conviction, or that a crime was even committed, but it does mean that there is a enough evidence / testimony to go to trail. This one is going to take a while to see what really happened in that house. No DNA bodes well for the defense, the willingness for the grand jury to go to trial bodes well for the prosecution. Time should bring out the truth in this.
Bottom line for me the big issue here has always been about the Lacrosse team’s general attitude toward the police. I don’t care if you are innocent, or guilty, or that you go to Duke (or Coastal Carolina) you get legal council and you talk to the cops. The way the team acted has been shameful. I have no problem with the coach being fired or the season cancelled simply over the actions of the team toward the police.
Now back to the case at hand. I have always said that if the charges are false the young woman needs to be prosecuted for bringing false charges. If the charges are true these two (or three as that was the original charge) need to be put under the jail for a long time. I have no sympathy for rapist, or for those that bring false charges of rape. Serious crimes, or serious false allegations, should result in serious time.
I think this will be a interesting case to follow, and with today’s actions it got more interesting for sure. I do hope that it goes to trail quickly, and there is some closure, either way, in this case soon where the injured, who ever they be, can get to the process of rebuilding and recovery and where the guilty can start with their punishment.
