Goofy News People
The last two mornings on the Today show have been classic examples of why people not think that the mainstream media really reports news anymore.
Yesterday they lead the show off with a report about the CBS reporter, and her camera crew, getting attacked. This attack resulted in the death of a camera man and a sound guy. First of all my prayers go out for the reporters healing and I am praying as well for the families of the two men that were killed, but this is not the biggest news in the US. This is the press making themselves news. People, real average people, die everyday tragically. Just because the person is on TV does not make their death or injury headline news. Should it be reported and covered - YES, defiantly. Should it be the lead off story on the morning news - NO!!
A further example of that happened again this AM on Today. Today is Katie C’s last day on the show. That should be celebrated for several reasons, but the 10 minute retrospective should not launch 5 or 6 minutes into the show. Show it at the end, work it in bit by bit over the entire show, which I am sure they did and will as I left home about 7:20, but it is not worthy of being in such a key position on the AM news. Reporters / journalist / anchors, etc moving or retiring is not headline news. Immigration, terrorism, nature disasters, taxes, congressional / presidential / judicial moves, health findings, stock / interest changes, etc are headline news. Stories about changes or events within media are not headline news.
Not to only pick on NBC. ABC has a report this AM titled - Will Brangelina Save African Nation. It basically is about how the Jolie-Pitts going to Namibia may put the nation on the map, help it improve, etc. THEY ARE MOVIE STARS, THEY CAN NOT SAVE A NATION. If people worldwide go to Namibia, focus on Namibia’s problems, etc because of the Jolie-Pitts then will be short lived, and short term. Actually I doubt the impact will even be worldwide, it will likely be in America only. Brad Pitt is still no Hasselhoff in Germany.
Simply, Namibia - it’s citizens and it’s government - are who can save Namibia. Other nations / individuals may aid in that in various ways, but two stars can not save a nation. Doubt me, look at Live AID. Did it solve hunger in Africa? No it did not and there were far more then 2 stars involved there. In that case, food and aid went in, much of the food and aid was hoarded by warlords and the actual people that were starving saw little improvement. Namibian’s, and those that run the nation, must want and allow change if it is to occur. International pressure and attention does not solve issues unless there is a will of the people within the nation / area to change. Two stars, and their now three kids, can not save a nation.
The fact that media thinks entertainers carry that much power is scary. Stories like this show how far the media as strayed from being about news. News broadcast today are as much, if not more, about entertainment as it is about news. Until that changes most people will not see broadcast news as being a real source of news.

[...] As we said previously the entire idea that these two saved a nation is laughible - post here -, but it is funny that as soon as some laud them some other equally goofy group has to come along and attempt to tear them and their actions down. Sort of somes up the world in general doesn’t it. Build them up higher then they deserve and then attempt to destory them. [...]
