Knoxville Charter

First of all let me say that I am for charter government, in fact I am always for local government having more influence then state and federal government. Simply, I like government to be closer to those that are being governed then at a distance.

With that said, this current Knoxville charter deal is a joke, but I do think that they, the county government, will and can fix it in the end though. I think that this end result, resolution and solution, will likely be due to the fact that a vast majority of local citizens want charter government and the citizens will not let the government just walk away from it. Driving that will also be the fact that it seems that no tax increases are being challenged by this invalidation, but the ability for the people to have more control locally is. That does not play well at T-ball games, pools, lodges, country clubs, eateries, or shopping centers..

Now to what bothers me the most about this deal. It is the line from the county mayor that the Knox County charter being invalidated is like invalidating the constitution because Jefferson signed on the wrong line. Guess what, JEFFERSON SUBMITTED THE CONSTITUTION TO ALL 13 STATES AND THE PEOPLE / VOTERS THAT CONTROLLED IT’S FUTURE!! Not sending it to the governor / state for 16 years, that is not a oversight that is STUPID!!! We, i.e Knox County, has filed all the other paper work for title changes, new laws, etc, but we FORGOT to send in the thing that CHANGED OUR ENTIRE FORM OF GOVERNMENT. Come on this is making government look terrible. That mere fact should make every Knox county voter livid.

Hopefully this will get straightened out soon. I also hope all the county commissioners that were fighting term limits do NOT get re-elected as like it or not the people of Knox county want you term limited out. It may not be the law now, but it is still the will of the people. IF you really cared about the will of the people you would pull out of the race, i.e. Mary Lou Honner and Wanda Moody, and not make the law the issue and just follow the will of the people. Gang of nine, your actions do speak louder then words, and your actions at the moment tell me that you care more about your political career then the will of the people. I personally will remember that at all upcoming elections, regardless of the outcome of this suit.
