Racism and Rap
Sarah over at Moore Thoughts has a excellent post discussing (maybe even destroying) the argument put forward by Rev. Paul Scott. Rev Scott’s base argument is that “white devils” need to be pushed out of rap and hip hop because they are using it to degrade and destroy those within the black community, and are profiting from black rappers destroying their own community. Scott believes he is not racist because to be racist you have to have power. Silly me, like Sarah, I always thought racism was when one decided issues based on color or race instead of facts and issues. As Sarah points out racist with power (regardless of color) can do more damage, but bottom line racism exist within all communities and is wrong wherever it exist. Sarah also points out how making statements about how “white devils” control those within the rap game is by proxy degrading the amount of intellect that those in the rap game have. Her points about Puffy and Russell Simmons (i.e. Run’s brother) are well founded as well. Give Sarah’s Full Post a read Here
