Safer at Speed

Djuggler from Reality Me has a post up about the Orange Route / I -475 (The Knoxville Beltway). He sees the route / road as being basically un-needed and a combination of destruction of scenic natural areas and a poltical pay off to local big wigs. Though I am not naive to the later, I do not find the route selected particualarly natural at this time anyway. I simply I am for the road / route and see more good then bad, though there is some of the later in the project. With that said I believe d and I will just have to agree to disagree overall on this project as I more then respect his views and opinions.

Now to the what I find REALLY interesting about this post. The information that speed saves. I have long held from personal obversation that the faster traffic moves as a unit the safer it is. Problems occur when a slow moving / broken down vechile disrupts the flow. Others then attempt to make reckless moves and result is a crash. If the entire flow of traffic moves at a high rate of speed togathers problems just do not arise. D also points out that Knoxville is attempting to slow traffic not for safety but for eco reasons, which will allow for federal funds in construction of the Orange route.
