Our primary poltical parties are lost.
First of all let me say that this post is directed more on a federal level then a state or local level as I think the closer you get to local politics the closer parties follow their true values. My bottomline issue is that the souls of both of America’s two main parties, on the federal level at least, are lost.
Moving on, I am at worst a independent conservative and at best a classic liberal. What that means is that I do not tow the party line for either major party in the country. I try to look at situations, leaders, and issues independent of the concrete casket of party politics.
With that said and understood I have to say both parties have lost their souls. I say this because I am routinely told, and hear, from members of the respective parties that JFK was the best Democrat president in the last 50 years, and Reagan was the best Republican president in the last 50 years. Without arguing the merits or flaws of either let us just say OK to that statement and move on to a deeper analysis.
Neither party at the moment reflect the values / views of the president that they claim best describes them in the last 50 years. The Democrats would not nominate or elect JFK today, and the Republicans would not nominate or elect Reagan. My question is why should a person support either party if today neither party is willing or able to even approach their own self appointed standards of excellence.
Just something to think about as we move into the election cycle in November, and in the coming years.
