Landis Update

Floyd Landis has made a statement. He claims he is clean, and that he will prove it. He also says that even if he clears his name it will not clear his reputation as some will not believe it. At this time, Floyd is asking everyone to give him a chance at proving his innocence before pronoucing his guilt. The “B” sample, the second sample, will be tested within the next few days. Full story at here.

The most interetsing thing to me in this story is that testrosterone boosting takes weeks to take effect. His urine from the early stages DO NOT show signs of that based on what is currently being reported.

We will keep you updated as we learn more, but some are already saying that he needs a great lawyer though - story here. There is also a addition test, the CIR test, that can be show the amount of natural and artificial testestrone, the entire story - here at Boulder Report. Most interesting in the Boulder Report story is that it points out the wording of the response left the option of a LOW number open. As noted in the Boulder Report a low number can result from the Cortisone shots and the UCI release said that the test was out of normal, but did not say if it was high or low.

As also Greg Lemond is out in front of the story condemning Landis, even though the B sample is not back yet. From this story, at Yahoo Cycling UK.

Landis’s compatriot Greg LeMond, a triple Tour de France winner, said he was stunned by the news.

“I’m devastated and extremely disappointed,” LeMond told AFP.

“I can’t imagine the disappointment for Floyd and his family. I really did believe Floyd was clean.

“The problem is the sport is corrupt and it corrupts everybody. I still believe it was one of the cleanest Tours ever. But is it 100-percent clean? No.

“You will always find riders who transgress the laws. I really did believe Floyd was not among them, that he was clean. Hopefully, he will be able to step up and tell the truth.”

Just more proof that Lemond can not deal with any other American having success in the Tour. Lemond always contended Lance was dirty (even before the charges), and he only supported Landis until charges were made and then convicted him before the final evidence is in. Way to show the world how peity you are once again Greg.

Understand, if Landis is dirty I will be one of the first to say that I am disappointed, that I expected more, etc, but I am at least going to wait for the evidence and not jump to a conclusion.

  1. Hear, hear! I could not agree more with statement that Lemond is totally jealous of any other American taking the limelight from his tour wins. He comes off as a self absorbed and arrogant person in his OLN documentary . I wish he were still racing so that Floyd could both show him what a true champion is, self effacing and humble, not to mention humorous. Asked what the first thing that went through his mind after hearing the allegations, he responded “Where’s the bottle of alcohol?”. I believe Floyd is innocent and truly hope he is vindicated.

  2. For the good of cycling in general, American cycling specifically, and Floyd Landis personally I hope he is clean. I think the real test will be the CRG (I think that is the name) test were they determine if the testoterone is natural or human made. If it is natural this goes away, but some will never believe Landis regardless of the final results.

Hopefully this gets cleared up soon, Landis gets his hip replaced in September and is back to riding strong by January (i.e ready for the 2007 Tour) where he can defend his yellow jersey with a strengthened Ishares team.
