Bryant in second, why does it matter?

Nathan Moore of Moore Thoughts has a post up about how Ed Bryant is now in second place in the race to take on Harold Ford for the soon to be vacant US Senate seat from Tennessee. Nathan’s post here.

The following statement is NOT a knock on Nathan, as he is just a blogger reporting information. My question is why be excited about being second? The winner will take on Ford, the guy in second will be running for county commission or local school board next year. Second in the Republican primary to run against Ford is like dating the runner up to the runner up in the local beauty pageant - no one cares except you.
