Landis Update
Well, based on reports in the New York Times, and other sources around the world, it is being reported this AM that some of the testosterone in Floyd Landis’s A sample (the B sample is suppose to be tested, and the results known by the end of the week, but few think the results will differ from the A sample) is man made or artificial. IF this report is true then Landis’s argument that it was a natural high test is gone. IF that is true Landis is a doper, and he needs to go.
Understand there are a lot of IF’s in that. For the non cycling fans out there also know that no cyclist as EVER lost a testosterone appeal, so it is likely that even if Landis is shown to have used artificial testosterone the penalties will likely be light. I would expect him to lose the TDF win though as cycling wants to be seen as clean and Le Tour will pull the jersey.
Also know that I still hope that Landis is clean, for his own good and for the good of cycling overall, and I would hope that for any rider regardless of their nationality, and their position in the tour. What I want is for cycling to get clean and stay clean. I know cyclist are some of the most tested athletes in the world (both in and out of season) and that testing only gets about 50% of the doping methods out there, but it is time for the sport to get clean. I would love to see Landis show that he is / was clean and that the tests are flawed, but at this point it does not look good. Personally though I am going to wait until all the evidence is in before I make a decision.
