Kyra Phillips & fairness
Well CNN is getting slammed this AM for not getting Kyra Phillips mic turned off while the President was giving a speech in New Orleans. During a bathroom or make up break, Phillips talked about how good her husband is (I am sure he is glad to hear that he is great guy), and how she has to protect her brother from her “control freak” sister in law (I would say Thanksgiving will be tough this year at the Phillips house). The gaff lasted about 90 seconds.
Bottom line it was a mistake. People are human, and in the end no one was hurt, so move on. CNN issued a apology to both their viewers and the White House for their “audio difficulties”. It is now time to drop it. I would say that overall it has already been dropped in most media outlets and few even are talking about it this morning. Google news only shows about 20 stories on it.
The sad thing is that if the story had been the other way - the President speaking freely in a open mic over a TV interview lead in or something - there would be hundreds of stories about how stupid and unprofessional that he was. In fact when the President shared his true views of a reporter (which was picked up with a long distance parabolic mic) the harshness of his views and his language was the story of the day for 3 or 4 days.
Understand, I am not comparing the job responsibilities, or duties, of TV anchors to the President. I am simply saying that people are human, they make mistakes and when they speak freely and it is broadcast then it just that a accident. There is no reason to roast anyone here, as mistakes happen and as long as no one is hurt no foul. The fact that human mistakes of some are considered marks of lower intellect and similar mistakes by others are simply called mistakes though should lead one to consider just how most news is handled.
