Schree Pettigrew & the 18th district
The base of this blog is in Tennessee’s 18th House District. Though we have members in other districts, and other states, our home base is there. That makes Stacey Campfield our House Rep. Thus the reason we have a Camp4u link on our blog. Not because we completely agree or disagree with Rep. Campfield, but because he is our rep.
Enter Schree Pettigrew. Schree is running against Mr Campfield in the November race. Until we meet her a few days ago though, we were not even aware she was in the race. To say that her race is virtually invisible is a understatement at this point as personally I have yet to see a sign.
Now back to meeting Schree. While speaking with Schree, and her aid, it was a interesting to see the contrast in approach between herself and Rep Campfield. Schree, and her aid, were very engaging, very pleasant and very direct. That is very different from the Campfield campaign which seems to just swing by every few years and ask if they can put a sign in the yard and then move on. I yet to personally meet Mr. Campfield, and I have lived in the district since he first ran for office. This blog has commented on Mr Campfield (both pro and con), and linked to his blog as well, several times and we get no response or acknowledgment of our points, problems or comments.
In defense of Mr Campfield, we are sure he is busy and yes we could call, but guess what, we BLOG our issues, we do not call about them. Why? Because we want to share our thoughts and views with others not just get pushed to the side and noted by the politician and their staff. Apparently this means of discussion and debate has not worked with Mr. Campfield though to this point.
Back to Schree. She seemed far more interested in finding out what was on our mind, what we wanted, what we cared about, etc then the Campfield campaign ever has. This may or may not be because she is currently not in office, time will tell about that, but at this point she seems far more engaged in what is on our minds then the Campfield campaign.
Based on her website there are some issues that we disagree in importance on with Schree, and others we completely agree with her on. This same thing is true with Rep Campfield. So, as of this time the vote a few 18th district residents is up for discussion and debate. Right now I personally I am not sure how I will vote, but time will tell.
What I do know is that I will be watching both candidates and races to see how they handle the next two months or so. I also know that I like the direct contact approach of Schree and it seems that she is actively trying to get this seat. Competition, in any form, is good the consumer and in this case those consumers are the residents of Tennessee’s 18th district.

I found this entry after doing a Google search for Schree. While I used to live in TN I have since moved, but still like to keep up with up and coming stars in the TN Democratic Party. I HAVE met Schree when I was doing business in Knoxville recently, and think the folks of the district would be extremely lucky to have someone as intelligent and plugged-in as her representing them in Nashville.
Just out of curiousity, has anyone else followed the whole “Stacey Campfield’s bizarre roommate” story? I don’t want to throw stones, especially since I don’t live in the district - but sure seems weird, and would make a great discussion.

We commented on it, but little seemed to come of it.
