HP Redeemed
Well as much trouble as I had with HP Tech Support over the phone and online chat support, HP warranty repair and service did a excellent job.
Last Thursday I got the FedEx box to send my laptop back to HP. It was 2 days late, but it was a holiday weekend so I guess that is ok. I packed the laptop up and took it to my local Fed Ex facility to go out that night. HP got it Friday morning, they shipped it back out Friday evening. It arrived on Monday.
That is AMAZINGLY GOOD SERVICE!!!
As I told them from the beginning, the problem was a failing touchpad (i.e. hardware). HP repair put two new parts in it, tightened up a few screws, and sent it back to me. They also upgraded my BIOS while they were in there. Once I got the laptop out of the box, and put the hard drive ( which I pulled because I did not trust them NOT to format my hard drive due to a hardware issue), and battery in the laptop, it booted perfectly and the touchpad (which was the failing hardware) worked perfectly.
Long story short, HP phone and online chat support is TERRIBLE!!! They do not listen to you AT ALL, they do not have the ability to help, they just read a script. They think a reboot, and / or a format, will solve anything. As I mentioned before one tech told me they format a hard drive when they ADD / CHANGE MEMORY!!
Anyway, the actual repair people at HP are amazingly good. In less then one day they received, repaired, and re-shipped my laptop. That is what service is suppose to be like. In good faith I can tell someone that HP repair / service did a good job for me.
Now if HP would just improve their phone and online chat support they would really be a easy recommend for me to others.

If you think HP Tech Support is terrible, you’ve obviously not owned a Dell for the past 8 years or so… You actually got to the point where HP would fix the problem - while the Sun was still warm. With Dell, you wouldn’t have got that far. (And that’s coming from someone who’d never buy HP after an experience I had with them…)

Great to know. At my company the saying goes - You bought a Dell, oh hell. At this point I am thinking custom build and self support only in the future.

[...] Let’s be honest, you are not much of a blogger / webmaster / American freedom advocate if you have not been banned, or at least harrassed, by one of, or someone from, those nations. Personally “Bob” from Mumbai is still trying to bring us down / silence us after we explained how stupid he personally, and HP corporately, was to have a policy of formating ALL hard drives that were sent in for repair - even of memory add ins, and hardware repair. (our HP rants here , here, and here). [...]
