Metro Knoxville > 1 Million
Well Metro Knoxville (based on the statistical analysis of the census bureau) is likely over 1 million now. Micheal Silence has the full story here. Of course it will not be until the 2010 census that the data is official and confirmed, but this is a milestone and one we should all celebrate.
Understand I have long wanted to see metro Knoxville in the million+ range so I am really excited by this news. My only issue is that the University of Tennessee Center for Business and Economic Research. and the Knoxville MPC count Newport, Morristown, and Lafollette in the Knoxville centered numbers. I know there is more and more cross border shopping, employment, but I think that is a bit of a stretch, especially to include Newport.
To me counting Newport as being linked to Knoxville is like counting Dalton, GA in Atlanta’s numbers - i.e. a bit of a reach, but tentatively possible. I hope that by 2010 though Metro Knoxville sans the Lafollette, Newport and Morristown CSA’s will be near million people. That is unlikely to happen though, so maybe by 2015 or 2020 we will be there. Great story though and good to be in a growing area.
