US “PRO” Soccer is Ridiculous
While at lunch today I heard a radio story about how the LA Galaxy (the MLS (Major League Soccer) - I know I lose cool points for knowing what MLS stands for without doing a Google search - that hired David Beckham) is having open try outs for locals to make the team. That is like having open try outs to be Peyton Manning wide receiver at the Colts, to be the power forward for the Knicks, to play second base for the Braves, to be goalie for the Florida Panthers, or RIDE THE TOUR DE FRANCE WITH TEAM DISCOVERY (or CSC).
Pro sports should never have to have a open try out to find players. The NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB do not have to go check the local fields, courts, rinks and diamonds respectively to find players. Sure there is the rare player that makes it into the pros by going to a camp and working onto the team, but the teams / leagues are not actively suggesting that such a route is viable or reasonable to build their team, franchise, or league.
Soccer is a REAL sport, it is a REAL event in other nations, it is NOT in the US.
May all the sensitive pony tail men playing FUTEBALL book their flights to LA quickly to get them out of every other city and focus their labors and lives in Cali.

I think that owner and coach of The LA Galaxy should not have watched the movies “Invincable” or “The Waterboy” or “The Replacements”

soccer will be one of the big sports in the U.S. when more people remenesce about it as adults while watching it on tv. “Yeah, I remember that time we were in the state playoffs and the game went into overtime with the score knotted at 0-0.”
