Tour of California - Stage 1
Well with the exception of the flaky GPS data online that seemed to be offline more then online the first stage of TOC (Tour of California) was a good one to watch. The server loads must have killed them, hopefully they will be better prepared today.
Hated to see David Zabriskie crash out early, but that seems to be a ongoing issue with David Z. When he is upright though he is a great rider. He would have been top 5 in the race I am sure.
The crash with two laps to go was so strange. Odd that the leaders go down like that. I really hated to see the officials lock the field there and give everyone the same time, only giving out finishing points, as a it was not in the final 2 to 3K (as the rule goes normally). If it had been on the open road it would have been a lot harder to sell. I think this was a great example of a bit of home cooking as the race officials / locals/ fans really wanted to see Levi L in the golden fleece in his home town. My wife had the line of the night when she said that Levi L’s exposed butt check due to the crash looked like Britney’s shaved head.
That sprint was epic though. Graeme Brown really pulled off a close and great win over Greg Henderson in that one.
Hopefully stage 2 will be a good as stage 1. Most of all I hope the servers hold up and slew data better where I can follow the race better.
