Fred Thompson & The Race For President
Well Freddy T from Tennessee is considering a run for president. At this point I would say that he stands a good chance to win the Republican nomination as Rudy is not loved by at least half of the Republican base (for various reasons) and McCain is much more popular with Democrats & Independents then he is with Republicans.
Side note - In my view McCain is running for president not for the Republican nomination at this point. I think he will go independent / third party in the end.
Mit Romnee is not getting the surge he expected and everyone else - including the much tauted and discussed Mike Huckabee - is not even in the frame at this point. Newt does not stand a chance at all, and I do not think he will even get in the race at this point as his negatives within the Republican party are going up faster then Rudy’s at this point, and that is hard too do.
If Freddy T wants this though he needs to get in the race in the next 2 to 3 weeks though and get to running. If he waits too long the big money and the big backers will be gone.
On the Democratic side is, has been, and will continue to be a two horse race. Obama vs Clinton. She leads in the polls but she is not putting Obama away and he is still looking strong. The rest of the Democratic field, including the draft Al Gore crowd, need to move on and pick either Clinton and Obama to back as there will be no other options soon.
In the end I am thinking you see a Rudy V Hillary run or you see a Freddy T Vs Hillary run. I think Obama will come close to the nomination, but miss by a bit in the end. I think Obama would beat Rudy nationwide though in a election. I am not sure Hillary does. I have always felt the fact that the President has been either a Bush or a Clinton for over 20 years will eventually play against Hillary as people will want another family in there, regardless of their politics. Freddy T is a complete wild card at this point, he really could stir this race up. Time will tell though.
