Palm Sunday
Just a quick Palm Sunday thought.
A bit of background first. Palm Sunday is the celebration of the Sunday BEFORE Christ’s resurrection. The “Palm” in Palm Sunday references the palm branches that were laid before Christ by followers / seekers - the crowd - as He entered Jerusalem triumphantly. Just a few days later those same people - the crowd - were the ones that yelled / demanded for Christ to be crucified.
Now to the point of this post. How many times are we the same way with Christ. We celebrate Him, we rejoice in Him, and then just a few days (hours) later we deny Him, we mock Him, we ignore Him because of what is around us and in us. We let “the crowd” within all of us become our voice. We let the world overcome what we know to be true. We don’t get what we want - we blame God. Our life does not go how WE want - we blame God. Something bad happens - God’s fault.
Understand, this is not a cop out. We act as WE want. We do as WE want. It is no one else’s fault, but ours, that we deny, mock, and ignore Christ. No one else is responsible. No one else is to blame. Just us. Our decisions, our plans, our way, and our responsibility.
Fortunately, Christ (and God) are forgiven. Even though we deny, ignore and mock Christ still yearns to redeem us and God is still willing to forgive our sins. That is something worth celebrating that is for sure. The nature of Christ, and God, are truly things that are worthy betting your life on and living your life for.
So as you go through this week, or any week, try to not turn on and deny Christ so quickly due to the pressure of “the crowd”. Just something to think about.
