Apple developing Microsoft habits
Apple announced today that their newest version of OS X will ship four months later then originally announced. It sounds to me like Microsoft, and there 95%+ market share, is pushing their bad habits of missing deadlines into Apple now. Well it was only a matter of time.
Regardless of how great and “innovative” the newest version of OS X is, Apple still makes the best technology toys in the world. With a sub 5% market share of the computer marketplace and more profits from their Ipod / Itunes / Iphone / Ilife / Iworld / Iinfinity products Apple is far from being a major player in the future of computing. This fact is just reinforced that the 4 month delay in Leopard’s launch is due to Iphone development.
Apple and their products are about lifestyle and not about computing. Apple, and the existence of the Mac / OS X, forces Microsoft to attempt, usually feebly, to make the computer user experience more “fun” and interactive, but the day in and day out work on computers are done on Microsoft based PC’s with Windows / Unix / Linux / etc back end servers. That trend is not wanning. Microsoft is far more worried about security then they are about the OS GUI. Linux is a far greater threat to Microsoft then OS X.
