Zabel & Aldag - Dopers
Well nothing will surprise me now. Eric Zabel, and Rolf Aldag, both admitted to doping yesterday. (Story at Velonews here) I never would have thought of Zabel as a doper. He would have been one of the last guys in the peleton I would have considered. Zabel says he only doped once - I would like to believe that, but I am not sure if I do or not.
Aldag, now a team manager with T-Mobile, admitted that he doped from 1995 to 2002. The management of T-mobile did NOT accept his resignation and Aldag will continue to work with the team.
Zabel admits to doping once in 1996 and says he did not do it anymore due to secondary effects. Zabel, currently with Milram, is not sure of what his future with the team will hold.
Both Zabel and Aldag were with Telecom when B. Riis, owner and manager of CSC, won the TDF in 1996, and with the now retired Jan Ullrich won the TDF in 2007 for Telecom.
