Bojangles Chicken - Knoxville
Well after many years of having to go out of state, or at least to a border city within the state, to get Bojangles Chicken and dirty rice, the BEST FRIED CHICKEN IN THE WORLD is back in Knoxville. Now Bojangles is not the best chicken place in town - that goes to Wishbones - but for fried chicken there is NONE better then Bojangles. KFC needs to go on and move out of town in shame.
For those in the Knoxville area the fried chicken mecca is now at Lovell Rd next to the Waffle House. In other words it is on the Harley Davidson side of the Interstate at Lovell, not the Turkey Creek side. The location is so new (it opened last week) that it is not even on the corporate website yet.
The lovely wife and I went down to Bojangles Saturday night, after having grilled chicken for lunch, and it was EVERYTHING that I remembered. The line was long and slow, but the food was good and fresh. The place was full of every type of person you could imagine. Knoxville’s version of thuglife was sitting right next to a family of five who was sitting right next to a older couple that looked to be well off, who was sitting right next to a single guy. That is what makes Bojangles great it is a mixing bowl of humanity.
As is normal with Bojangles they got my order slightly wrong. With my double breast order I got three sides, instead of the two I ordered (double dirty rice). - Side note - there is NO better side then dirty rice in the world. When paired with Cajun Fried chicken the world is a great place. - Moving on, the third side I got was a dirty rice in a container with white gravy. Not great, but I still ate it. Bojangles never got my order right in the 80’s and they still could not now, but that is irrelevant as the food was GREAT!!!
Bottomline, Bojangles is not and never has been about the service or the atmosphere, it is about the food. They make GREAT chicken and they do it EVERY DAY!!
Based on what I overheard I have a lot to look forward too when it comes to Bojangles chicken. I heard one assistant manager tell a customer that they (the franchisee I guess) plans to open three more in the Knoxville area soon. I wish I knew if one would be closer to me, but I am willing to drive for this chicken regardless.
Knoxville keep this place open and flourishing as I need my chicken fix. Now if I could just get them to put Cheerwine on the beverage bar I could eat there ALL the time.
