What is the deal with Oak Ridge / ORNL / K25?
Last night the History channel did a story on secret / lost cities. The focus was on the cities of the atomic bomb projects. The History Channel piece talked at length about Oak Ridge, the creation of the city and the operations that occurr / occurred there with a large part of attention being given to the buildings / towns that were there and that are gone today. The engineering and development that entailed Oak Ridge was focused on extensively. The special repeatedly talked about how secure and secret the labs at Oak Ridge (K25 specifically) are even today.
Then today the news breaks that a low level contract employee (Roy Lynn Oakley from Roane County) has been arrested for attempting to sell nuclear secrets to other governments and groups. The breach is considered serious, and he apparently even got some tooling out of the lab. The rumor is that the information may have included methods on nuclear material creation. Way to make me go from local pride to local shame in less the 24 hours.
Next we will find out that Micheal Vick / Ron Mexico has some Blount County property for his “animal and agriculture enterprises”.
Regardless of the situation though, remember Tennessee 1st in your heart, home to more nuclear weapons then almost every nation on earth, home to the Tullahoma Space Institute, home to Satrun, home to Nissan, home of Dolly, home of Elvis, home of Country Music, home of the Sunphere, home to THE UT VOLS, and 47th in education.
