Get over it people
I saw over at MSN that some people (the number of calls is unknown, but 30,000 signed a online petition) are mad about a joke about the quality of Filipino medical degrees due to a line (that is right ONE line) on Desperate Housewives Sunday night. Full story here
First of all I don’t watch D. Housewives so I did not see the show, but I read the description at MSN. All I have to say is GET OVER IT PEOPLE!!! Whether you are Filipino, Christian, Muslim, Indian, Irish, etc stop LOOKING TO BE OFFENDED. I personally hear derogatory slights on my faith (Christianity) and its members (Christians) almost daily from various corners of society, the web, TV, print, etc. I am not offended by the vast majority of them. I definitely am not nor would I be offended by ONE LINE contextually meant as a joke that fits a widely accepted stereotype (whether the stereotype is right or wrong)!! If you don’t like the sterotype fight to change the stereotype with your personal and daily actions, don’t get all bent about ONE LINE in a TV show.
Too many people / groups are looking to be offended. When a really offensive thing does happens it is minimized when people have overreacted in the past o little things. People (regardless of your whatever) get a sense of humor. If someone barely slights you, GET OVER IT!! If they really offend you well then do something, but a one liner about checking to be sure that the doctor does not have a Filipino medical degrees is not worth getting bent out of shape over.
This is classic example of one of the biggest problems I see in America. People / groups are willing and able to get angry and motivated over little things and will allow a TV show to offend them, but they are unwilling to participate or get motivated on things large issues - quality of education, taxes, direction of their nation, their family dynamic, personal situation / struggles, etc.
IT IS A TV SHOW!!! GET OVER IT!! That goes for anyone (regardless of race, creed, ethic origin, sexual orientation, etc) that is willing to get all bent over ONE LINE by a actor but is unwilling to take the time to participate in their family / personal issues, that is uninterested in local or state or federal issues (be they government, social, political, religious, etc.) or to take the time to personally be a role model.

You are absolutely correct. Wearing our ’sensitive side’ on our sleeves
is getting to be ridiculous. If we cannot laugh at ourselves, our community,
our country, then we are in big trouble.
