Bill Got The Last Laugh

Filed under: Current / General, Personal, Technology permalinktrackback — Team Swap @ 8:16 pm

Well Bill Gates got the last laugh in on my. Today, June 30th 2008, the last day Windows XP is officially sold by Microsoft my XP Pro box decided to lockup and needed a reinstall. Repair did not work (it rarely does but hey blind hogs do find acorns sometimes), copying a backup of the screwed file (system32/config/system if you care) did not work, so I had to reinstall XP Pro SP2.

Yep that is right, I had to reload XP SP2 on a box that has been running stable and normal for months, and which had already been upgraded to SP3, on the last day XP was sold. Fortunately I had my gold edition copy of XP Pro SP2, so it only cost me time, but I still find it might funny that this “happens” on the last day XP is sold.

Good one Bill…this is the type of stuff I will remember you for… This and ME and BOB and IE6 and ….

PS3 Update

Sony has rolled out a new firmware upgrade for the PS3 - story here.

Now if they would just get it below $250 - including a 60GB hard drive or larger - I would think about buying one. Until then I will stick to my 5 year old PS2 and my Wii - including Wii Fit. Yeah that is right I got a Wii Fit…and oh yeah it ROCKS!!! Never thought weighing in good be fun. Unfortunately it keeps telling me that my Wii fit age is 6 to 8 year over my real age due to my inability to balance on one foot.

Landis Lost

Floyd Landis lost his last appeal to regain his 2006 TDF Yellow Jersey. The CAS decision also requires Landis to pay a 100K in legal bills for the USADA having to defend their case against him. Full story & full details at Velo News here

I really like to see the images that Google news puts with the stories on its page. I know they are selected randomly, but they are still funny.

Eternity By Default

This came in from Daily Wisdom this AM and I KNOW it is worth sharing, so give it a read and a think. Links added by Swap Blog.

Universalism, Edgar Cayce, the Bahai Faith and Jesus can’t all be right. You can take the good from each and form your own religious mix, but at some point you’ll have to face the fact that some things are right and some are wrong. Not just “wrong for you,” but in order for some things to be true, some other things must simply be false. They’re not relative truths.

There can be black, there can be white and there can be any color in between. These are relative.

But you can’t have a body and not have a body at the same time. You can’t have a soul and not have a soul at the same time. You either have one or you don’t. You can’t be alive and dead at the same time. You’re one or the other. These are not relative truths.

And if you’re stuck on a cliff with nowhere to go but down, and a truck is coming to run you down, you can either pitch off the cliff or not. You can’t do both. But if you choose not to, the decision will be made for you by default.

Either Jesus died in your place and rose again or He didn’t. You must decide. If you decide He didn’t, go ahead and take the good from all those religions because your decision implies that there are no eternal consequences anyway. But if He did, you can’t simply take from Him what you like and leave the rest. Because if He did, you must conclude that He is God. And God is, by nature, Absolute Truth. But at all costs, come to some conclusion. Don’t let your eternity be decided by default.

Microsoft buys Google competitor

Filed under: Current / General, News, Technology permalinktrackback — Team Swap @ 10:00 pm

Microsoft bought Powerset - a startup natural language search engine - so maybe Microsoft is really ready to give Google a run. I doubt it though. Of course I would also take this to mean that any Yahoo and Microsoft deal is gone for good. Yahoo had better partner up with Google and MAYBE save themselves. Story about Microsoft purchase of Powerset here

Landis - one day and counting

Filed under: Current / General, News, Sports permalinktrackback — Team Swap @ 9:49 pm

Floyd’s Landis’s last and final - probably - appeal is suppose to come down tomorrow. Wonder if Landis could get a ride by Saturday if his yellow is restored…I doubt it but hey it would add more drama to a already drama filled race. Velonews story here

Heck with Astana out (which means #1 & #3 from the 2007 TDF are not racing), and green jersey 2007 Boonen not in the race Landis could only add a bit more drama and excitement. Of course if it was 13 offensive Brits, 12 drunk Irishmen, 10 angry Scots, 25 snobby Frenchmen, 8 insame Americans, 22 arrogant Spaniards, 30 elitist Italians, 15 doped up Russians, and 54 misc riders from the rest of the world all on 1963 Schwinn Varsity’s on French roads in July for the Yellow Jersey I would watch it. Of course any time there is not a Frenchman in yellow I am happy.

Tarmac Roubaix SL2

Filed under: Current / General, Sports, Technology permalinktrackback — Team Swap @ 2:58 pm

Well Specialized is rolling out Tom Boonen’s Paris Roubaix ride. The straighter carbon - greater stiffness - and resized bottom bracket / tubes sound like it will be a great ride. It will not be out until 2009 for the average riders, but Velonews has a story on it here.

On a personal note I hope that Boom Boom Tom takes his current suspension for out of competition drug use - specifically cocaine - and keeps himself clean for the rest of his career.
