XP - Farewell or Good Riddance
Two editors (Robert Strohmeyer and Edward N. Albro) at PC World debated the pros and cons of the end of Microsoft XP production - though Microsoft has committed to upgrade / patch it until 2014 -yesterday and it is a good read. Mr.Strohmeyer contends that Vista is a improved, prettier, and more usable OS then XP, while Mr. Albro argues that XP The PC World article here.
Ed Albro sums my points / view up well in the following statement -
Robert’s (Strohmeyer) argument, in a nutshell, is that XP isn’t as great and Vista isn’t as horrible as all the gripers out there make them out to be. I’ll grant both points–XP has some significant flaws, and Vista makes some marginal improvements.
Here’s the problem: Marginal improvements just aren’t enough.
Bottomline, I still dislike Vista and I don’t find enough there to warrant upgrading. XP SP3 is fine for me and it was FREE. Additionally, I am disappointed that Windows 7 - Microsoft’s next OS shipping Jan 2010 - is not going to be as revolutionary as it should have been- really making it Vista SE -, but the article is a good read. My home computers will be on XP and Linux though until Vista SE ships… then I will consider a OS change…after Vista SE SP1… LOL.
