Bill Got The Last Laugh
Well Bill Gates got the last laugh in on my. Today, June 30th 2008, the last day Windows XP is officially sold by Microsoft my XP Pro box decided to lockup and needed a reinstall. Repair did not work (it rarely does but hey blind hogs do find acorns sometimes), copying a backup of the screwed file (system32/config/system if you care) did not work, so I had to reinstall XP Pro SP2.
Yep that is right, I had to reload XP SP2 on a box that has been running stable and normal for months, and which had already been upgraded to SP3, on the last day XP was sold. Fortunately I had my gold edition copy of XP Pro SP2, so it only cost me time, but I still find it might funny that this “happens” on the last day XP is sold.
Good one Bill…this is the type of stuff I will remember you for… This and ME and BOB and IE6 and ….

Yeah I was repairing a PC tis weekend and was not aware that they were stopping XP on Monday. So when I read your post (via iPhone) at school I was in a hurry to leave and rush off to wally world. Needless to say they had zero copies on the rack.
I managed to spot an employee who was around 17. This young man informed me that they were stopping XP and that they were doing it because Vista was a better OS. He wanted to direct me to where Vista sit on the self. The rack was full of these pretty plastic green boxes. When I informed him that I was interested in XP he said that they had them in the back. After about 15 minutes of conversation he finally hung his head and retrived my copy of XP. It was not too late but I see that most likely by the end of today it will be.
Small companies like one I know on clinton hwy will be charges 150+ for their copies(they already charge 115). I wonder if I was to purchase a copy and retain it for say about six months if some one on ebay would be willing to pay alittle extra for it.LOL
