Google 2008 vs 2009

Filed under: Current / General, Misc, News, Technology permalinktrackback — Team Swap @ 1:40 pm

Clint Boulton over at eweek.com (a ZiffDavis enterprise site) follows all things Google. On Dec 24th, Clint discussed the things he thought Google should have done or done better in 2008 (post here). On Dec 26th, Clint followed that piece up with a piece talking about what he expects to see out of Google in 2009. (post here)

If Rick Warren Was Named T.D. Jakes

[H/T to Mark Olsen at Pseudo Polymath (and Via BeliefNet) of this one]

John McWhorter writing over at The New Republic argues that the response of liberals and progressives to President elect Obama’s selection of Rick Warren to speak at the inauguration would likely be VERY different if he was named T.D. Jakes and looks at how similar Warren’s views on same sex marriages, abortion and other “hot political issues” are to the majority of the African American community. Post here

Ontological freedom and political actions

Mark Olsen from Pseudo Polymath has a very interesting post up discussing the nature of true freedom found in Christ and if / how that freedom may or may not apply to politics. Definitely worth a read and think, whether you agree with the argument or not. Post here

Photoshoping and Gmailing the Masters

Cora Nucci of Information Week has a very interesting piece up on how the Williamstown Art Conservation Center is using a mix of traditional and modern (Xray, photoshop, gmail, etc.) technologies to examine and catalog the works in their collection. Full Piece here

Nov 2, 2009 = Windows 7 - yeah I can see that

Filed under: Current / General, News, Personal, Technology permalinktrackback — Team Swap @ 10:57 am

First things first. In my view, Windows 7 is really Vista SE (Second Edition) or Vista CE (Corrected Edition), but heck I would drop the Vista brand too if I was Microsoft due to the negative view so many have of Vista. Moving on, Don Reisinger over at CNet News argues that Windows 7 will ship on 2009 and is picking November 2nd as the ship date. CNet story here

Personally I have NO doubt that Windows 7 will ship in 2009, as Microsoft will not let Vista bleed for over another year, and November 2nd seems a good guess to me based on Reisinger’s arguments.

Additionally with a weak economy and PC makers needing to improve sales Microsoft’s Platinum partners and OEM equipment makers need something to help them push sales into the black. $400 desktop’s and $600 laptops are not going to fuel the next generation of computing innovation I can promise you.

Iphone at Wally World

Filed under: Current / General, Personal, Technology permalinktrackback — Team Swap @ 10:22 am

Well the news that the Iphone is going to be sold at WalMart is confirmed and all over the web now. To me access to a Iphone at WalMart is meaningless as I have no interest in a Iphone and I rarely go to WalMart. What I really think is interesting about this is that Apple (seller of chic, style at premium prices) is selling it’s wears through WalMart (home of staple supplies, common goods and low prices). That really shows me just how rough this economy is and just how powerful the WalMart customer is in the recovery of this economy.

Christmas Eve Greeting

Filed under: Current / General, Misc, Music permalinktrackback — Team Swap @ 10:17 am

This one goes out to all our friends at ORNL and out on “the Ridge”

It’s Christmas at ground zero
There’s music in the air
The sleigh bells are ringing and the carolers are singing
While the air raid sirens blare

It’s Christmas at ground zero
The button has been pressed
The radio just let us know
That this is not a test

Everywhere the atom bombs are dropping
It’s the end of all humanity
No more time for last-minute shopping
It’s time to face your final destiny

It’s Christmas at ground zero
There’s panic in the crowd
We can dodge debris while we trim the tree
Underneath the mushroom cloud

Ronald Reagan:
Well, the big day is only a few hours away now.
I’m sure you’re all looking forward to it
as much as we are.

You might hear some reindeer on your rooftop
Or Jack Frost on your windowsill
But if someone’s climbing down your chimney
You better load your gun and shoot to kill

It’s Christmas at ground zero
And if the radiation level’s okay
I’ll go out with you and see all the new
Mutations on New Year’s Day

It’s Christmas at ground zero
Just seconds left to go
I’ll duck and cover with my Yuletide lover
Underneath the mistletoe

It’s Christmas at ground zero
Now the missiles are on their way
What a crazy fluke, we’re gonna get nuked
On this jolly holiday

What a crazy fluke, we’re gonna get nuked
On this jolly holiday!

XC Bikes by Justice Madison of Oldfort, TN

Filed under: Current / General, Local, Personal, Sports permalinktrackback — Team Swap @ 10:29 pm

First of all let those that do not already know Team Swap LOVE bicycles and cycling It is the ONLY sport we care about 12 months a year and that does include UT football. Most of the best days of our lives have involved two self powered wheels and open smooth pavement. With that said, we don’t care if it is thin tired or fat tired, multiple speed or single speed, we just like if it has cranks, wheels, handlebars and no motor .

Moving on. Apparently there is a growing number of people like us in E TN like us and one of them is down in Old Fort, TN and making bicycles. Justice Madison Cycles is based in Old Fort, TN and they only make XC (i.e off road) bikes. They are NIFTY COOL and DOWN RIGHT BE-UTE-A-FULL!! They also have the coolest frame logo on a bike. Timeless, classic, and distinctive what else can you ask for.

If you are looking for a custom XC bike give these guys a look. The owner / builder / designer seems to be the type of guy that wants to build “something wonderful” for the people that think and ponder the same way he does. If you are that type of person and looking for XC bike I would contact them.

If you don’t think like what Justice Madison is doing in Old Fort, or are a roadie at heart like most of Team Swap, then call up BREW (though not in E TN they are still a built in the shadows of the Smokey’s bike - they build COOL MOTOBIKES too!!) for all things on two wheels, Lynskey (still the best paint job I have ever seen on a bike) for custom TI, or Litespeed for production TI. Honestly though, I prefer Seven to Lynskey for custom TI though. That really does not matter though, as my next road bike will be carbon - maybe even a Storck (whose US rep just happens to reside in E TN as well). If you want a TRI bike there is only one call to make. Quintana Roo(if they ever get their new bike line out and if you want ), build the best TRI bike in the world. If you doubt that, well ask my brother in law he makes his “Roo” HOP like a crack addicted marsupial when he rides.
